Stage 5: Implement and Scale
Now that you have a validated value proposition or new business model, it’s time to make it all come together.
But, even with a robustly validated idea, success is not guaranteed. We all know too well that a great idea can easily fall apart without a proper handover and implementation. Scaling and bringing that idea to market opens up a whole new set of questions to address: Do the market and financial numbers add up at scale? Does my fulfillment system have the capability to grow? Do you need an outside partner to help scale and deliver? And if so, which partner? Do you have a strategy to launch?
We help you tackle these questions and more during the Implement and Scale stage of our Becoming Future Proof process, leaving you with an agile strategy and roadmap to navigate bringing your value proposition to market.
Note: This blog post is the final installment in a series of five blog posts on our methodology in empowering organizations to become future proof. If you are new to our site, you can read a quick summary of our overall process here.
Implement and Scale is the final stage of the Future Proof’s methodology for Becoming a Future Proof organization. This stage draws from agile way of working, lean start-up methods, and market data tools, and concentrates on successfully implementing the validated value proposition or business model from Stage 4. This includes:
- developing a business model delta map,
- determining which metrics to measure, and
- charting out an implementation roadmap.
At the end of the Implement and Scale stage, you will have:
✓ Scaled value proposition and/or business model ready for market
✓ Step-by-step roadmap to guide implementation
✓ Meaningful metrics to track and evaluate the success of implementation
✓ Identified and empowered ‘Future Proof’ ambassadors to successfully drive and scale value creation within your organization
Navigating and measuring business growth using metrics and a business model delta map
During the first step of the Implement and Scale stage, you work alongside our Strategy Designers to develop a business model delta map. Together with our Strategy Designers we provide insight in what has to be done to launch the new value proposition and business model. This includes:
- securing the funding to scale,
- connecting with the right strategic partners to deliver the new business model,
- obtaining any new infrastructure (including technology),
- establishing sales funnels,
- framing the narrative to inform your target audience about your new proposition and
- hiring the human resources needed to turn the idea into reality.
You also learn how to integrate new value propositions into your existing organization structure.
“Future Proof ensures a workable concept. Many companies can give good advice, but Future Proof can easily convert the theory into the daily practice.” – Beijko van Melick, CEO of KalFire FirePlaces
Our Strategy Designers then work with you to identify and set metrics to measure and determine successful implementation using business metrics maps and dashboards. Meaningful metrics go beyond simple financial data – the metrics chosen are designed to provide valuable insights to spark further improvements. Such metrics could include:
- Reliability of your product or service: are you able to deliver on promise?
- Customer acquisition costs: how much money and time is going into getting a paying customer?
- Sales funnel duration: how long does it take you to lead a potential customer to a sale?
- Customer effort score: how much effort does a customer has to exert to get an issue resolved, a request fulfilled, a product purchased/returned or a question answered
- Up-sell and cross-sell conversion rates: How many customers are purchasing additional offers from you?
- Employee satisfaction: how satisfied and proud are your employees?
- Mental market share: how likely is it potential customers will think of your brand when they are in need of the solution you offer?
Charting successful implementation with an implementation roadmap
At the end of the Implement and Scale stage, our Strategy Designers work with you to chart an actionable implementation roadmap for the value proposition and/or business model. The implementation roadmap is not a simple overview, but rather a detailed plan to navigate the hurdles of implementing and scaling a new proposition.
For example, the implementation map will help direct when and which cities to expand your new service, taking into account regional and local regulations and competition to ensure you pick the right cities at the right time. This could be where there is the highest discrepancy between supply and demand (like Uber did when it first expanded its business) or launching during specific holidays or events that are likely to drive up demand (like Airbnb did when launching during a week of major conventions and hotel room shortages)
Once you have the implementation roadmap in place, it’s time to launch your new value proposition! You and your team have been equipped throughout our Becoming Future Proof process to continue to adapt and respond to change as the market evolves – you now have the internal capability to continue to ‘future-proof.’
Creating ambassadors for future growth
After completing our five ‘Becoming Future Proof’ stages and launching and scaling a new value proposition and/or business model successfully, there will be a group of employees within your organization who can lead future growth. They are familiar with the way in which you can remain continuously relevant as an organization in times of rapid development and change. How you should look outside, ask the right questions and translate the insights gained into your organization. And how you can do this quickly and successfully in addition to running your existing business. This will help your organization to fire start the transformation to a future proof organization.
If you still have questions or need assistance as you execute the implementation roadmap, we are here to help. Unlike many other consultancies whose services end with a handover of a validated offering, Future Proof continues to work alongside you. In this way, Future Proof is more hybrid: we are a strategy design agency AND transformation accelerators.
